Change to low energy lights.

Using green renewable energy is one way of converting to a sustainable living but using less energy is as important as choosing the right source. The general demand of electricity is increasing all the time and the power companies often go for the cheap and dirty solution of coal power plants, killing the planet.

Using less power is a win-win situation for both you, your wallet and the nature!

5 Fast tips

¤ Turn off electric devices, don't let them stand in stand-by. Some flat screen TVs drain almost as much power in stand-by mode as in operation.

¤ Do not forget your coffee maker! Those little (electricity) suckers drain between 900 and 1500 watt just to keep you coffee hot. Then it's much better to switch it off and keep your coffee in a thermos.

¤ Do not leave your lights on when no one is in the room.

¤ Keep your air condition free from junk to make it run more efficient as the airflow isn't stopped or slowed down by dirt and dust. This applies to all ventilation systems of similar construction as a regular home AC-system.

¤ Fill up washing machines instead of washing half-full machines. Saves both electricity and water.

Low energy bulbs

Changing your light bulbs to low energy bulbs like compact fluorescent lamps or light emitting diodes will both save energy and lower the indoor temperature. When a incandescent light bulb is lit it produces both heat and light, about 90 percent of the power consumed is emitted as heat and the remaining 10 percent as light. A LED produces 13 times the light of a regular bulb at the same watt.
